More landscaping...

We still like the squares on the dining room wall....here is what they look like all dry and in daylight - not light brown anymore :)

Yesterday we decided to work on the yard again...i think we just don't know where to get started with unpacking (so much to do) so we just end up in the yard :) We still have to put in our pathway/walkway so I guess we have a good excuse will we ever get done with the yard...who knows?
Yesterday on our way back from servicing my car we stopped at our fav greenhouse. They had a huge sale on their tropical trees, just what we need for our indoor plants.
So we picked up a dwarf banana tree, a palm looking plant and another modified tropical artsy looking plant (sorry don't remember their names :) Here they are I potted them in some pretty pots. Will leave them out till their roots grow a little before I take them indoors. (I have also identified some flowering bushes and some trees that are on sale that would be perfect for our yard....maybe next weekend :)

Then we decided to tackle our pathway-to-be...
this is how it used to look
Then we marked out the pathway and killed the grass on it...helps with its removal.

Then we cut through the dead sod
And pulled it out piece by piece
The straight edge spade was great at cutting it out
Half way done and our yard trash can is filled almost to the brim
Yaaay all done just that little edge to take care off now

Check out our new little AMES dump truck perfect for carrying stuff around the yard
Then we tackled that corner and decided that our garden needed
some widening so we had to re-do the edging for it.

We put in the edging, raked the soil to even it out then the stamper came out
It worked really well...real workout for the arms
Me trying it out...building my muscles :)
Here is what it looked like this morning from the front door. PERFECT! don't you think?
Now just have to take out the railings.
And look who came to visit, our stupid resident mole. Made a tunnel right through/under our walkway.
Oh well some more stomping and then will lay down the rocks.
Here is Wiki wondering what we are going to be doing out today.

Ok I better get outside and finish up - Grant says we got to be done by 3pm cause there is a USA soccer match that is on :/
....so bye byee until next time :)

Oh weekend...how you have changed!

Friday's used to be party time...well not this Friday. It was time to relax and get more soil.
Then we decided to do something inside the house like finish the half bath on the first floor.
We really needed to put in that toilet, walking up a flight of stairs every time you have to pee is just not fun!
Grant reading How to put a toilet together :) and Wiki being all sly edging his way towards the door hoping to escape.
So the last owner put the hardwood floor and now we couldn't slide the two long screws out :/
Good thing we didn't need to take them out after all we were able to just reuse them.
Yaaaay and it finally went up.
Wiki and I checked it out and gave it an A+
Oh and then we find out that we need to get a longer water line to connect to the flush cause the old one is 2 inches short....go figure :/

Saturday we went to a local festival, tried a new Thai restaurant, then our friends stopped by with their little baby. I should get some pics of him sometime, I keep forgetting. Maybe once he gets a little older.

Sunday we found an awesome plant nursery where we got these gorgeous purple Petunia flower baskets on sale. It was one of those buy one get one free deals.

Some blooming flowers in our new garden.

We also found these cool solar powered lights for $10. That has a bird, a dragon fly and a butterfly on it.
We put in the edging, covered the plants with some of the pots they came in making
it easy to pour the mulch on.
 Almost done...
 All done!
Now all we have left to do is add the stones to create our walkway :) The dead patch of grass
below is where the walkway will go.
Look at the pretty things light up. And they change color too! they are almost christmasy :)

Happy Thursday!

This is how we get our exercise...so these are the plants that i put in on Monday while Grant was away at Frisbee.
Whom ever put in this yard put beach sand under the rocks we removed so it needed to be removed and some fertile soil had to be added to grow the plants
So we dug, dug and dug (Grant trying his had at picture taking again :) )
Then we bought three globe shaped bushes and put them in hopefully they will grow big and round.
Lots of soil and compost needed to be added.
Aaaah my back and legs still hurt...
Since we increased the planting area I did not like the placement of our plants anymore. So we took them all out (ah all that hard work on Monday...flush!) and decided to add compost and soil to the entire area a few inches deep.
Ahhh all evened out and ready for some more soil...so off to wal-mart we went to get more compost and soil.
Ahhhh finally done! at 10:30pm
We still have to put in the edging and add the mulch....but we think it came out really nice. And then just need to use those stones and make our pathway.
Will add more day-lit pics soon!
