Wow is has been 5 weeks since we closed on the house. Seems like forever! We have the entire first floor (except the half bath and the closet) done. I am so proud of all we have accomplished, with just evenings and weekends to work with this has not been an easy undertaking. We are tired and sleep deprived but we are loving seeing it all come together...keeps us motivated and moving. We have been moving all our already packed boxes (from the last time we moved - decided not to unpack since we knew we were going to be buying a house) into the garage over the last five weeks so all we had left to move was stuff that was unpacked like the kitchen and stuff that was too big to fit in our cars.
Grant's parents came up from Iowa to help us with the move. We are so grateful for all the help and it was great to see them after hmmmm i guess it would have been Thanksgiving 2010!
They are just going to have to start taking more vacations ;)
Ok we hate moving...not because of the move itself but because of all the heavy lifting. Not like I did much of it but still it sucks! Next time we are hiring movers. The kitchen is kinda moved in, just still a mess.
Grant got some help with projects around the house that we couldn't figure out how to do, which was great!
The electrician was able to come and get his wiring done. The hood works wonderfully. Not that we have done much cooking in the last week, but we can tell it is going to be a great addition to this space. Just have to figure out how the cover goes on.
This week Grant got in some more mowing, lesson learned from last time don't wait too long in between mowing or else you have to rake up all the clippings! (Greg and Kathy raked our lawn for us before they left and filled probably 15 bags with all the cut grass clippings - THANK YOU!). We also tried out our weed eater and push mower....we have a huge yard which apparently needs more than just a riding mower.
Wiki has moved too and he loves the huge space. Here he is on the patio (his favorite place) watching the many birds all around.
We hung the chandelier as close to the center as we could get it ( the wire didn't have much give). We also put up our cool looking wall shelves. Love them both!
We primed the closet where Grant got all the shelves taken off with his dad's help this past weekend. There were huge nails in the wall that just refused to come out. And when they did left 1/2 holes, anyway nothing some putty could not take care off.
Remember the fridge we had in the kitchen....thanks to craigslist and some other first time home owners....it took only a day to sell! We still have to paint the space behind the fridge, just primed it last night will need to get it painted tonight.
Especially since it takes only a day to get another fridge. We had restrictions on space (which is smaller than the typical fridge size) so we had already narrowed down the one we wanted. And the memorial day sale price made it even sweeter. Now we just need to shave off 1/2 inch of the cabinet above it and it will fit great.
Hello new fridge...can wait to get to know you better :)
We are sooo glad the three day weekend is finally here. Time to relax maybe :/ ....We have to move all the small things left behind at the apt, clean it and check out. Maybe get the kitchen ceiling patched up. We also have the toilet sitting in the garage ready to be put in our half bath so maybe we will get that done and then just settle things around the first floor. Oh and maybe get a nice grill :)
We would love to hear from you and see what you think of all we have done or doing. You should be able to leave a comment as long as you have a Gmail or google email account.
Have a good memorial day and enjoy the long weekend!
Will keep you posted.
