Week 2.....Prep work begins

I came back from my travels to find all the wall paper gone. Grant tried peeling off the upper layer of the wall paper, but since it was scored that was a painful process. Lesson : Do not score wall paper before removing. Then he sprayed straight white vinegar onto the left behind paper adhered with wall paper glue and it worked really well.  

He also took out the toilet in the master bathroom.

 It now resides in the bath tub :) till we get to more of the demolition in that bathroom.

We did more....we took out the baseboards

To get a better idea of what was behind the wall we took off the vent cover.

 When we took off the vinly tiles there was this layer of white sticky glue....that's when we decided to concentrate on getting the first floor finished before we tackled the master bath

 We put down a layer of plastic all over the first floor.

Took off doors.

 Since we didn't like our first set of colors, we picked a whole new set of colors and ordered the samples online. I think about 10 colors - it is the palette for our entire house. I ordered them while I was traveling, they came really quick.

 Then we added a layer of paper over it, to help keep the place dry of any paint drips or spills.

More plastic laying...

 No it's not edible it is pink Spackle to cover up the bazillion holes in the walls...

The pink turns white when they dry and are ready to be sanded.

 Then sanded out all those spackled holes

 

 Then Grant wiped down all the walls with a TSP solution to make sure there was no dirt/oil that would prevent the paint from adhering to the walls.

 Then we started priming with a 50% high solid primer. The red wall had to go first, since that would need the most number of coats. But the primer worked really well, all it took was two coats to cover up all that red.

 Cutting in the primer. We have come to realize what a pain cutting in can be. Rolling on the paint is the easy part.

Then we painted the ceiling that went really quick, we used all Prudy brand rollers and a nice extension rod. Using a thick nap roller for the ceiling made it go quick.

 Uuuuuh these are our colors or at least the samples we ordered, besides our old samples.

 We worked late into the night. Every evening and every weekend.
